What VECO Does

Environmental Conservation
VECO is a charitable organization from South Santo, Vanuatu, working with communities to establish integrated farming approaches, addressing improved farming, sustainable land management, food security, and reduced pressure on natural resources.

Tree Planting & Coastal Rehabilitation
VECO has addressed one of the biggest environmental concerns for surrounding communities on the Tangoa mainland through its coastal rehabilitation project. Around 12,000 trees were planted from an established nursery site, which also generates thousands of seedlings supplied to other communities and interested farmers across Vanuatu.

Integrated Farming Systems
VECO encourages community members to apply traditional farming methods, focusing on traditional irrigation with access to water resources channeled to farms, supply of planting materials of food crops such as water taro, and farming of freshwater prawns and other freshwater life such as shellfish.

Climate Action & Advocacy
VECO is a member organization of the Pacific Islands Climate Action Network (PICAN), engaging in regional climate advocacy and action.

Community Conservation Areas
VECO recently launched a Community Conservation Area (CCA) initiative and secured a consultancy role to lead climate resilience activities in Big Bay under the Vanuatu Coastal Adaptation Project (VCAP) Phase 2.
